A wave is any oscillation which is responsible for transfer of energy in the absence or presence of a material medium.

A wave has a property called wavelength which is a measure of distance between two consecutive parts of the wave having the same phase. The wavelength of a wave decides the amount of energy that is being transmitted.

In some cases, the energy is transmitted through alternating electric and magnetic fields. Now, the term ‘electromagnetic spectrum’ encompasses a wide range of such kind of waves where the differences within this class lies in the differences in the wavelength.

When we normally talk about light, we usually refer to just a small part of this electromagnetic spectrum which our eyes are sensitive towards. This is the visible part of the spectrum and even this small part consists of wavelengths from 400-700 nm.

Almost every source of light that we encounter in our daily life from a simple bulb to the sun itself, release electromagnetic waves having range of wavelengths and these sources of light are called polychromatic sources.

Other sources like lasers are designed to release light consisting of only one wavelength. These sources are monochromatic sources...........#...
