The right lung is larger than the left lung, due to the heart being locatedslightly to the left (even though it is shorter due to upward compression by the liver). The left lung is made up of 2 lobes, while the right is made up of 3 lobes.

The left lung is smaller because of the space taken up by the heart. Each lung is separated into lobes branching off the main bronchus; the right lung has three lobes, while the left has only two lobes.
