Why light rays passes without deviation when it passes through optical centre of the lens?

when the light passes through optical centre it doesn't deviates
but
you can't say that
when light doesn't deviates it passes from optical center because there are many cases in which light ray doesn't deviates and also doesn't pass from optical center
for e.g.
when you put lens(made up of material of refrective index as of water) in water it passes every ray of light without deviation.

✔️Look at the lens as a slab of finite thickness. In a small vicinity around its center we may consider its opposing surfaces as parallel to each other.
✔️A ray incident on this area, at any angle, will be refracted twice at parallel interfaces.
✔️Therefore it will emerge on the other side of the lens on a direction slightly displaced, but parallel to the incident one.
✔️Since the parallel displacement is tiny as long as the lens is not too thick, it looks like the ray passes through the center undeviated.
