Why lime water is used to test the presence of CO2 gas in th laboratory? What will happen if CO2is passed in excess into the lime water.

Lime water turns milky when CO2 is passed through it because of formation of calcium carbonate CaC03
But if it is passed in excess quantity CaCO3 also get involve in reaction and lime water become clear ;)
