Why lord krishna uses panchjanya shankh to start mahabharat?

It was just common practice for people to blow conchshells and beat drums at the start of a battle. It's similar to what's done in many cultures; I don't think it has any particular religious significance, except perhaps why a conchshell is used as opposed to some other instrument
