The Non-cooperation movement was withdrawn because of the Chauri Chaura incident. Although he hadstopped the national revolt single-handedly, on 10 March 1922, Gandhiwas arrested. ... Although most Congress leaders remained firmly behind Gandhi, the determined broke away.

Mahatma Gandhi started the non cooperation movement in 1920. He wanted to carry this movement along peaceful lines. But some people took to violence in Chauri Chaura,a small village in UP, they burnt a police station. There 22 policemen were burnt alive. Gandhiji was very disappointed. So he decided to call off the non cooperation movement in 1922.
hope this helps.
