On June 17, 1631, Mumtaz suffered complications while giving birth to her child and after an unusually prolonged labor of nearly 30 hours, she breathed her last in Burhanpur. Postpartum hemorrhage, which is defined as excessive loss of blood during childbirth, was confirmed as the reason of her death.
