They did not wanted the old mughal period to happen again.Because they refused give up on the revolution in education and society made by the british rule. They did not wanted to lose the shield called company. They had a fear that old mughal army wasn't strong enough to fight against the power nations of that time.

)It’s not a ‘FREEDOM MOVEMENT’ - Why ? Reason is simple… It was intended towards the common enemy- British. But- the motive was not- any sort of Democratic Freedom or formation of Liberal Nation State ! The motto was to ‘take the Brits out and…’ ‘… and continue the hell-state’ which was there before Brits came into Power Picture in India !

)Who was going to replace Brits ? - This is crucial question. The 1940s Freedom Struggle was actually a Freedom Struggle because Indian National Congress led by Gandhi had a ‘Plan to form a Democratic Nation State’ once they force a Brit-exit from India ! Now think about 1857’s event ! The official ‘Head-Of-State’ of a potential Indian (?) victory would have been - ‘Bahadur Shah Jafar’ - The Heir to the Throne once ruled by Babur-Akbar and Yeah.. Mr. Aurangzeb too ! Why the hell a Nationalist Indian will want an India headed by the dynasty which has feats like Ripping of Eyes of and Oil-frying their opponents ?

)Hindu Nationalist fellows are often mislead about 1857 - Including Savarkar ! The potential victorious ‘Mutiny’ or ‘War’ would have resulted in re-instating the Mughals (Weaker at that time) and Regional Nawabs (Stronger at that time comparatively )… These people were way more ‘Anti-Hindu’ than the Brits ! Savarkar miscalculated it as ‘First Independence War’ !! We have a Scholar here- in Maharashtra- who is an authority over Savarkar School of Thoughts… His name is Shri. Sheshrao More. He calls 1857 event - An attempt of Jihad ! Yes, you read it right - Jihad !! He has written a book which will provide you the interesting details and perspective regarding 1857. Here’s the link - 1857 Jihad by Prof Sheshrao More (And he is often criticised as ‘Savarkar-Fan’ by Leftist Intellectuals here ! So….)

)A Victory in 1857 could have fatal consequences - Brits get eliminated from the picture and the Indian region is again left to the mercy of the Tyrant-Vultures and Crusading Cults. No secular education, No democratic developments ! No Congress, No Modern Nationalism !! No Renaissance, No Liberal Values !!! I would have preferred to live in Present Pakistan rather than living in that Nightmare…

)Brits were the least evil for that India ! - I will prefer to live in a Colony of Western Nation State rather than staying in an Islamist-led region. Yes, there was not a picture like ‘Hindu-Muslim Bhai Bhai’ before Brits entered the Political Pitch of 1900’s India. The Hindu-Peshwas (especially the ‘Uttar-Peshwai’) were sick with atrocious and casteist ideas of Chaturvarnya. And the Muslim-Nawabs and Badshah were Islamist Tyrannies ! Sikhs made no mistake in standing with the Brits Side to defeat the rebirth of Mughals-led Delhi and Cult-divided India. (Sikhs have faced the evils of Jihad like no social group of India has ever faced… Just have a look - The Brutal Way In Which Mughals Killed This Sikh…) The fighters like Rani Laxmibai and Nanansaheb Peshwa were victims themselves- as they were forced to enter that skirmish to save their little provinces ! They might have been fought with bravery or whatever- For the person studying Civilizational History of India- such fighters can never be termed as ‘Nationalist Freedom Fighters’ ! Because the Idea of Nation was absent and ‘Freedom’ was an illusion in that era of Indian History !
