The problem with Cherapunji’s(Meghalaya) water shortage can be attributed to its local topography which causes rapid runoff during rainfall.
Another reason is lack of rainfall harvesting structures to store rain water.
Though nothing can be done with topography, effort can be made to put proper installation for rain water harvesting structures at appropriate places to use in time of scarcity.
Roof top water harvesting should be promoted among the locals to further store the maximum water during rainfall.
