Why Meghalaya plateau is separated from the Deccan Plateau?

The peninsular plateau extends further east beyond the Rajmahal hills to fromMeghalaya or the Shillong plateau. ... The plateau slopes down to Brahmaputra valley in the north and the Surma and Meghna valleys in the south. Its western boundary more or less coincides with the Bangladesh border.
