Most of the metal do not react with hydrogen because metals form compound by losing electrons and hydrogen also loses the eletrons and forms compounds.so normally hydrogen atom does not accept electrons given by a metal atom to form a compound.But there are few metals( like Na,Mg,Ca,k) which force the hydrogen 2 accept the electrons given by them and form a salt like solid compound called metal hydrides.Thus.most of metal does not combine with hydrogen....

Because metal form compound by loesing electrons and hydrogen also loses electrons. Thus most of metal does not combine with metal
