Meteors are called as Shooting stars because they look like huge ball of fire burning up in the sky like stars.
Explanation:
- The space is full with rocks structures called asteroids, these asteroids constantly collide with each other and are broken down into small pieces.
- When such collision occurs these small rock pieces are scattered across the space.
- When they enter around the gravitational field of the earth, they are pulled by the earth.
- But when they enter the earth's atmosphere they fall at a very high speed, and they are rubbed against the particles present in the upper atmosphere.
- This friction produces heat which burns them and it gets vaporized leaving behind a bright trail.
- This trail is visible to us and we call it as shooting stars.
- Sometimes it is also called meteor showers.
