The modern age (Twentieth century) is also called as the "Age of Interrogation and Anxiety". This is due to the scientific revolutions and the altering social, economical, political and moral conditions of the society. Man's faith is also seems to be questionable. He does not accept anything unless it is tested on the touchstone of reason. Scepticism and interrogation starts to increase which makes men to create a new set of rules and values. The technical and the industrial progress happens around us make us to move in the name of competition. The "20th century" is one of the "most turbulent eras" in the history where there is sharp and clear sharp exit from self complacency, compromises and stability. Thus this age has increased in "frustration, anxiety and cynicism". The literature of this period reflects all tendencies.
