CLASS 9 ( GRAVITATION )

⊙ AS, we know that every object in the universe attracts each other and the force of attraction between them is directly proportional to the product of their masses and inversely proportional to the square of distance between them.

⊙ But , due to the large mass of the earth the force of attraction between moon and earth is very negligible.

⊙ So, a very small acceleration is produce by the force of attraction by moon

⊙ Hence , moon can't come to earth and vice versa.

@ Prabhudutt.....

lovebook: okk .. so its due to mass
lovebook: ya .. thanks
lovebook: but if we take a look only through the line of gravitation then the mass will only be the reason.. right??

Gravitational force is directly proportional to the product of the masses and indirectly proportional to the distance between the objects.

The gravitational force with which the earth pulls the moon , the moon also pulls the Earth with the same gravitational force. But , the force applied by the moon is not enough to pull the Earth towards it.

This is because of the gravitational force of attraction between the earth and the moon which provides necessary centripetal force for its circular motion.

The moon attracts the Earth but the Earth does not move towards the moon because mass of moon is very small as compared to the mass of Earth.
