Even though the moon is much smaller than the sun, it appears to us on earth that the sun and the moon are of same size because the moon is much closer to the earth than the sun.
So, during a total solar eclipse, the moon comes between the earth and the sun all in a straight line and the moon seems to cover the entire sun.

⭕ The moon covers entire sun being very small compared to sun because the sun is very far away from earth as compare to sun. the moon is very small in size but beacuse of the distance the size seems to be equal. when a total solar eclipse happens the moon comes between the earth and the sun then the whole sun is cover up by the small moon.
