why moon is not consider as a planet?

Well, a planet needs to have a heliocentric orbit (fancy space talk for an orbit around the Sun), which the Moon does not have as it is currently orbiting Earth. Besides that, I'm not even sure if it would be classified as a full on planet as it is just slightly bigger than Pluto, a dwarf planet.
