Motion is a relative term because a body is considered to be in rest or motion with respect to a reference point, which may vary. This means that, an object can be in rest with reference to a point and in motion with respect to another. It depends on point it is related to. So, motion is a relative term.
For example- consider a bus moving. The passengers are in motion with respect to the surrounding of bus , because they change their position with respect to them. But their position do not change when compared with other passengers in the bus, so they are in rest.
