When high voltage is passed through the gas filled in glass tube, say Hydrogen gas, Cathode rays originated from cathode constituting negatively charged electrons collide with Hydrogen atoms and take away electrons. ... This is how natue of canalrays depend upon nature of gas.

The nuclear part containing positively charged protons, neutral particle such as neutron and minor particles like mesons, positrons, etc. left-off make up canal rays. So, every element contains different amount of protons, neutrons, mesons, etc. In their nucleus. But net positive charge on every proton is same. Thus, the residue makes up canal rays with different values of charge and mass with different gas. This is how natue of canal rays depend upon nature of gas
