There's one simple answer to this. But first we need to know about Rod cells.Rod cells are photoreceptor cells in the retina of the eye that can function in less intense light than the other type of visual photoreceptor, cone cells i.e. they help to see better in dark areas or areas without light. Therefore night birds have more rod cells (than other photoreceptor cells) which allow them to see perfectly in night time.

Rod cells have more pigments than cone cells. Thus rod cells can sense less or no light very well. For this reason night birds that need to locate things in darkness have more number of rod cells. Because they are nocturnal, meaning that they hunt at night, they need more rod cells.
