Why nitrifying bacteria are called chemoautotrophs .

Chemo means - Chemicals or Inorganic Substance

Autotrophs mean - Organisms which prepare their own food.


So, nitrifying bacteria use atmospheric nitrogen to synthesies their own food, henceforth they are termed as chemoautotrophs.
