Nitro alkanes are sparingly soluble in water, are highly polar with strong dipole – dipole interactions due to which they have high boiling points. ... Whereas alkyl nitrite, has O directly attached to alkyl group, which has less dipole moment than nitroalkane. That is why they are less polar.
