Oxidation can also be described as the process of loss of electrons. Similarly reduction is the process of gain of electrons. Since metals lose electrons to attain their nearest noble gas configuration, they themselves get oxidized and thus are called as REDUCING AGENTS AS THEY HELP OTHERS (NON METALS) TO GET REDUCED BY PROVIDING THEM ELECTRONS.
Similarly non metals are called oxidising agents because they gain electrons and themselves get reduced. They help metals to get oxidised by gaining their their lost electrons to attain their nearest noble gas configuration.

Hope it helps.
Plz Mark as brainliest.

kaustavd7dg: Nice but in class 10 cbse.....oxidation-loss of e...while reduction-gain is not there...so a different explanation is needed....anyway this

nandinipriya787: I agree but this question could not be answered in terms of gain or loss of hydrogen or oxygen.
