Electricity requires free I want to travel distances Hence,metals have free Ions due to high ionisation potential .Non metals are having no free ions as they are made up of molecules...non metals therefore do not conduct electricity..

metals have free electrons causing conduction of heat and electricity and non metals don't have free electrons .so they are insulators of heat and electricity.
