Non-symmetrical I and T sections are preferred in the design of curved beams because it helps in minimizing their design cost. They are capable of withstanding and resisting force more than symmetrical ones when subject to additional stress such as torsional stress. Hence, lateral torsional buckling is also given more consideration in non-symmetrical sections.
