In the northern part of India, the land is very fertile due to the presence of major rivers like Ganga and Yamuna.

These rivers are a good source of water for irrigation and also provide the soil with nutrients.

Thus North India produces large quantities of grains like wheat, rice and sugarcane and thus is called food bowl of India.
