The northern Plains off course have a plain topography the river Ganga and yamuna and their tributaries provide water n presence of alluvial soil makes it a fertile land. Thus it is highly populated.

The reason for northern plains beingdensely populated is that it is less complex to conduct a human life in theplains. Which is due to the availability of abundant water, alluvial soil and a moderate climate. This makes pastoralism and agriculture possible and less difficult.
