Explanation:

Oxygen is needed for the cathodic reaction in this electrochemical cell. The electrons produced at the anodic sites on the metal surface stay within the metal but lead to the release of electrons at the cathodic sites on the metal surface reducing oxygen to hydroxide at those sites.....
