Why only mercury is used in clinical thermometer

Since mercury has high density so it is used in thermometers.If water is used in its place we need a very big thermometer because of its low density as compare to mercury.

1)Mercury is the only one in liquid state at room temperature , therefore it can be used so that readings can be taken

2)as Mercury has the highest coefficient of expansion it can show even the slight change in the temperature correctly

3)mercury is a good conductor of heat as it is a metal
