does a silicon diode not emit light like other LEDs? ... In order to emit light a Semiconductor has to be direct bandgap. Without delving into too much solid state physics theory the generation of light photons in a crystal can occur during the recombination of an electron hole pair.

Nazir10: it's complicated...can you give me a solid reason or example
