Compounds having higher Carbon to Hydrogen ratio burn with sooty flame as there aren't enough Hydrogen atoms available for a complete combustion to take place (yielding CO2 and H2O). Whereas in most of the saturated compounds (Carbon atoms <8) burn efficiently with higher heat coefficient as the Hydrogen atoms are more as compared to Carbon atoms thus burn in a complete combustive process.
