Parents may accord less priority to girls' education compared to the boys' due to social norms and expectations e.g. girls becoming housewives and not requiring education to such and extent as boys, who would later become men, and would require education to support themselves, and their wives/children.

Indian parents may give less priority to female child education, as they are blindfolded by the belief that education is not useful for a girl who is going to toil in her husband's house. Moreover, in many places in our country, female infanticide is very much prevalent, owing to the dowry system.so there may be a little lagging in female education.
