why petroleum is exhaustable fuel???

petroleum resources are exhausted as the rate of formation of petroleum is much slow than the rate of use
it takes thousands of years to form and is used at a fast rate

HERE IS UR ANSWER,

Coal, petroleum and natural gas are exhaustible fossil fuels,
They cannot be prepared in the laboratory. It takes millions of years for dead organisms to get converted into these fuels.
Studies show that the known reserves of these fuels are fast depleting.
