Let time taken to travel the first half = x hr
Then time taken to travel the second half = (5 - x) hr
Distance covered in the first half= 60x (Distance =speed x time)
distance covered in the second half= 45(5-x)
So,
the distance covered in first half = the distance covered in second half
so,
=>60x=45(5-x)
=>60x=225-45x
=>60x+45x=225
=>105x=225
=>x=225/105
=>x=15/7
Total distance=2*60(15/7) =120*15/7=257.14km
(multipled by 2 because as 60x the distance is half way)
Then time taken to travel the second half = (5 - x) hr
Distance covered in the first half= 60x (Distance =speed x time)
distance covered in the second half= 45(5-x)
So,
the distance covered in first half = the distance covered in second half
so,
=>60x=45(5-x)
=>60x=225-45x
=>60x+45x=225
=>105x=225
=>x=225/105
=>x=15/7
Total distance=2*60(15/7) =120*15/7=257.14km
