Why ph5 is not formed while the pcl5 is formed?

This is so because both Phosphorus and chlorine belong to 3rd period and have their valence electrons in 3p orbital whereas hydrogen belongs to first period ... since 3p-3p overlapping is more effective than 1s-3p... therefore PH5 is not formed while PCl5 is formed....
