because it is acidic in nature

chetna19: i think this is not answer
girl9: because it can lose a hydrogen ion
jaasd780: Any substance which gives hydrogen ions when dissolved in water is known as acid.
When phenol is dissolved in water, undergoes dissociation to give hydrogen ion and phenoxide ion.
Phenoxide ion is very well stabilised by resonance.Hence phenol is acidic.
