⇒ It allows only specific food particles or molecules to travel in and out of the cells.

⇒ It does not permits all the molecules or particles to diffuse through the membrane of the cell.

  • But , if the plasma membrane gets damaged , then the particles can easily move in and out of the cells.

⇒ It acts as a barrier in the interchange of materials and particles through simple diffusion or the process of osmosis.
