Plaster of Paris is commonly called calcium sulphate hemi hydrate. It was basically made by heating the mineral gypsum.Actually, it was first used 9000 years ago.
Once , at the time of 1600s a fire raged across the Paris. There the king of Paris ordered that all houses in the Paris made of wood shall be covered by plaster. So, at that time a large scale mining of gypsum took place . Since, then Paris became the centre of the plaster production. So, it is known as plaster of Paris.
