pollen grains are lighter because they have to move or even transfer from one plant to the other for pollination by many modes , wind is also from one of the mode so pollen grains must be light in such a way they can easily fly by means of winds.
it occur in big amount because 1000's of them are wasted some by wind, some by water, some by animals, only 2 from 1000 get pollinated hence if they are huge then only pollination takes place as a probability.
