No,I do not agree with the statement because Ali used to squat on the veranda of the post office for long 5 years. He didn't disturb anyone and didn't talk much to anyone rather than waiting for his daughter Miriam's letter.
I agree with the statement because due to his immense love for Miriam,he shouted at the postmaster as he was exhausted waiting for the letter.Everyday he would be present at the postoffice for the letter. His presence made the postoffice officials angry at him. Thus he was considered as a pest by the postmaster.
I think the statement which is more appropriate is the first one because only out of his waiting and angriness for the letter made him shout at the official and with complete patience he used to come to the office for the letter. So i do not agree with the statement that Ali was a pest.

Ali was a very humble and patient man who sat at the post office everyday, waiting for his daughter's letter and not disturbing anyone. However, the post master and other people were very annoyed at this and mocked at him. They were very ill-behaved and it was not at all right for the post master to call Ali a 'pest'. They were rude and not at all concerned about the anxieties of a father. Thus calling Ali a 'pest' is not justified at any cost.
