poverty is one of the greatest problems faced in India.

and quite ironically this class forms the majority of the society. (so much for the upper strata being the majority)

poverty it has flourished in India for a very long time now.

the major reason being population burst. with the numbers increasing the employment of all is impossible in a developing country like India. there are many who are educated to good extent and are still unemployed.

the next reason being education isn't available to all. this maybe for various reasons, including social restrictions and lack of government initiative. government schools are not always up to the standard.

corruption also plays a vital role in keeping the poor as poor. also the power struggle of rich usually consume the poor as collateral.
