Why primitive subsistence farming is a slash and burn agriculture?

Because people only do this farming for the subsistence of themselves and their families not for the surplus

In this farming , farmer uses the land and when the land leaves it's fertility . He will burn the whole land and moves to other land. this may help the land to gets its fertility and also the land will be replenished
