The Rate of a Chemical Reaction is always positive. It can be confusing since the Rate of Disappearance isnegative, however when you think about it, a rate should never benegative since the rate is describing how fast the concentration changes with time. The reason for this is because the reactants are decreasing as a function of time, the rate would come out to be negative (because it is the reverse rate). Therefore, putting a negative sign in front of the variable will allow for the solution to be a positive rate.
