When aluminium isdipped in nitric acid a layer ofaluminium oxide is formed on the metal. This happens because nitric acid is a strong oxidizing agent. The layer of aluminium oxideprevents further reaction ofaluminium. Due to this, thereactivity of aluminium decreases.
