Why Refining is not essential for metals extracted by electrolysis.

The sodium and chloride produced in the electrolysis are kept from coming in contact with each other as the sodium is highly reactive and it must be prevented from coming in contact with oxygen as the metal quickly oxidizes under high temperature conditions.

There actually are simple... for example lets say Copper extracted by smelting has quite a high level of carbon impurities left in it which changes some of the properties, much like producing steel in a blast furnace. In the case of copper the changes in property make it much less effective in electrical components.

note: Copper is not extracted by electrolysis
