If the current passing through an electric heater has been halved then the heat produced will also be reduced to one fourth.

This is based on the Joule's law of heating which gives that

H= I²RT

H ∝I²

Where

H= heat produced

I= current

R= resistance

T= Time

Then the equation becomes

H/2 ∝ I²/4.
