The process used for making plant fibre from the stem of a plant by keeping them in a stgnant water for few days is called retting. because silk is obtained by the cocoon of silkworm, cotton is obtained by cotton flower of the cotton plant and coir is obtained by outer covering of coconut in the above Ihave tell that different fibres are obtained from different sources. That's why, silk, cotton, coir do not need undergo retting.because they are not sticked with some natural glue to the stems like jute .
