Rusting of iron object is fast in coastal areas then in desert because the main cause of rusting is moisture present in the air. Iron reacts with oxygen(moisture) to form an oxide layer which we further called it rust. So, in the coastal area there is lot of moisture present in comparison to desert areas because coastal areas are near the sea shore and in the desert area the temperature is very high that's why all the moisture present in the air vapourise.
