Senility, dotage or senile dementia is a condition in which an individual experiences diminishing mental capabilities. This conditions renders an individual basically dependent on others even for basic needs. The manifestation of this condition is likened to the attributes of a child or being child-like. This is because the disease inhibits thinking capacity, memory and functioning abilities. The individual basically becomes an 'adult child' and cannot do anything on his/her own same way as a child cannot.
