Why should a skeletal chemical equation be balanced?

According to Law of Conservation of Mass, matter is neither created nor destroyed. In a skeletal chemical equations the mass of products is not usually equal to mass of reactants. So in order to follow the aforementioned law, we need to balance the equation.
