Animals adapt to fast-flowing water when their environment is characterized by such waters.

Amount of flow of water either in a stream is never the same, as it fluctuates from season to season & even during a season. In such times, if animals do not have adequate adaptations to remain in a particular place, or even if they have the ability to come back to its desired niche, if dislodged - then it can survive, if not death is almost certain.
If the animals adapted to fast-flowing are found in slow-moving water- it could be:
They are temporarily dislodged & will get back to its original position or search for a suitable place.
If the niche is the same, slow-moving water might be only a temporary phenomenon.
